Diablo 4 Character Customization excels at character development and customization, allowing players to create their class with stunning features. To a degree, a variety of hair styles, skin tones, hues, jewelry, and markings will allow players to construct their own unique Barbarian, Necromancer, or Rogue.
Diablo 4 Character Customization’s aesthetic style, which draws significantly on medieval and Old Masters paintings, extends to character development as well. While green-hued hairstyles and multicolored body makeup are available, unique characters in Diablo 4 appear grounded and realistic, rather than like they’ve emerged from an episode of Monster Factory or a Saints Row cutscene.

There are dozens of hair hues and skin tones, with four feminine and four masculine features per class in the test version we played this weekend. The game does not appear to truly use male/female labels for its characters, for what it’s worth. This look also included ten androgynous hairstyles, such as close-cropped pixie cuts, long streaming ponytails, tied-up dreadlocks, and tight, natural curls. Aside from that, there’s an abundance of jewelry.
Makeup and body art are theme-appropriate and, once again, inclusive. If you want a heavy makeup for your Barbarian, go ahead and use it. It appears to be in excellent condition. You can also get some smeary body makeup for your Necro. What players will not discover is a broad range of body shapes, at least not for each character. The Barbarian is the beefiest and most muscular of Diablo 4 Character Customization’s five characters.Â

The Sorcerer/Sorceress class appears to be powerful enough to carry some books and wands, but they don’t appear to be as lean and athletic as the Rogue. Body type, it turns out, is deliberately linked to character duties as part of the game’s fiction, said Rod Fergusson, executive director and head of the Diablo series at Blizzard Entertainment. “Body type is something we consider to be part of the class fantasy,” says one student.Â
Fergusson said in a panel discussion, adding that the creator made a “‘dad bod’ Druid and an emaciated Necromancer” on purpose. “Those are elements of what make the class the class, in some ways, so having a deceased Necro or an emaciated Druid didn’t really play into the class idea. According to Fergusson, body type and character archetypes are also linked into Diablo 4 Character Customization’s armor and weapon design, as well as all of the other cosmetics that factor into a class.

“We wanted to provide as much variety as possible in terms of ethnicities, hair, markings, and eye color, but there were certain things that made the class, and for Diablo 4, it was body type.” Making armor that fits the heft of a barbarian frame would be difficult to reduce down to a 90-pound form of the same character. “The high-level goal was to give the most high-level choice you had in a Diablo game,” Fergusson said.
“We wanted it to be much more about your personalization [and] customization, but your barbarian will still be muscular, not a waif.” When players start the game, Diablo 4 emphasizes the diversity of character modification choices by showing its campfire of explorers with random appearances. There’s no evidence in the game that the Barbarian is meant to be a white-haired dude from Mount Arreat, or that any other character should be forced to play a specific gender or ethnicity.Â
